No nap time? WTF!?!?!

I went to Andrew's Kindergarten orientation today with Piper. I have a few questions.

#1 - Why did the principal of the school keep calling it "Kinneygarden"?
#2 - Is everyone that has kids now look like they are 50 or am I getting really old?
#3 - How come they set such low standards for kids? ie. Learn how to spell your name / learn the alphabet ect. (Andrew is way beyond that crap).
#4 - Where the hell is nap time?

Someone asked about "nap time". I thought it was the most legitimate question of the night.
Remember nap time?

They used to turn the lights out and sometimes read to us and sing songs? We even had mats!!!

The answer was: "We don't have nap time for the kids. After they come in from recess, they have a 15 min period to take their shoes off and get their drinks" WTF?!?!?

I think this is absolute BS. That is the whole problem with the world today. Nap time not only gave you a chance to reflect on the mornings paste eating activities, it gave you a chance to wind down and relieve some stress. Lets face it, it is hard trying to cram all that learning into your small brain when all you want to do is run around.

Oh well. I guess my kid will never enjoy "nap time". Shit, they even have nap time in India where all our jobs are going.

Makes you think, huh?

I didn't notice that he pronounced it wrong but I did notice the one teacher called it "john-ra" instead of saying genera in the proper french way (almost like sean-ra but with a "je" sound - only people who took french will understand the "je" sound, sorry).

The low standards were for the beginning of the year, not the end. Remember, one teacher said that some kids forget their name at school. Yes THEIR OWN NAME! Now THAT is a problem!

I don't know why everyone looked way older than us... It's strange...

Those nap-time photos look like they're from some cult and they've already fed all the kids the "special" kool-aid and then photographed it for posterity before the last person (adult) died. Marshall Applewhite...???

You do make a good point though, they should have some time to relieve some stress from the day but maybe that's what recess is for.

My favourite (stuipd) question of the night was "Who's with them at recess?"

As if the principal was going to say "No one, they're left to their own devices, to run free and possibly 'go swimming' in the creek that runs through the back of the playground"... I mean c'mon!

I love hearing the parent viewpoint & commentary! At my school, the kids have a rest period in the afternoon. They don't have to sleep, but they are expected to be silent in a darkened room for a period of time. I'm going to check it out tomorrow and report back! I agree - kids need to reflect AND plan for their afternoon nose picking festivities etc. You are right, Andrew is way beyond the average K-student! He is a ROCK STAR!

p.s. Jason, perhaps your should wear your long white beard????? Then you'd fit in with the new-old generation of parents!
